The race for the second qualifying spot in Group J of EURO qualification continues on Thursday. All the pressure will be on Luxembourg, as they must claim victories in each of their remaining two matches to put pressure on Slovakia, who currently sit second in the table.
The race for a qualifying spot in Group J comes down to the final week of action. Luxembourg will be hoping to prolong the fight to the final day, but only a victory will see them take their battle with Slovakia for second in the standings to the last match. However, they do have the added benefit of a playoff in early 2024 if they should fail to finish second in the standings.
Luxembourg come into this match after winning three of their eight matches in Group J. However, they are among the lowest scorers in the group, as they have netted just eight times. Meanwhile, they also boast one of the poorest defensive records after conceding 18 goals across their eight matches. An immediate response will be expected this week following a 1-0 loss against Slovakia last month.
Bosnia aren’t in the race for a finish in the top two spots in the standings, but they do have the added benefit of a playoff next year following their impressive performances in the Nations League. They have been in decent form throughout Group J, as they have won three of their eight matches. However, they have been slightly too easy to beat.
That is evident from the fact that they have suffered five defeats already in Group J. Meanwhile, they are among the lowest scorers after netting just seven times, while they have allowed 14 goals against.
Luxembourg landed a 2-0 win in the previous clash between the sides in June. That was their first win over Bosnia at the eighth attempt, with Bosnia having landed victories in each of the previous seven.
Luxembourg’s win over Bosnia in June could be an interesting factor to consider this week. However, it looks to be a fixture that will be a low-scoring affair given the attacking records of both sides. Therefore, under 2.5 goals with a draw being played out could be an interesting angle.
