The reigning FA Cup holders continue their campaign to retain the prestigious honour this week, as Manchester City travel to Kenilworth Road. Luton will be the home side, as they look to put some disappointing recent league results behind them in the cup.
It has been a dominant period for Man City, as they have already been cut in price to win a second straight treble this term. City have recorded wins in four of their last five league matches, and they are currently just a point behind the league leaders in the top flight. However, their attention turns back to domestic cup matters this week.
Luton will also have a break from league action, as the Hatters look for a return to form. They come into this match after losing each of their last three matches in the Premier League, which has seen them drop back into the relegation spots in the top flight. However, they have progressed through the FA Cup impressively to this point.
The Hatters avoided a scare in the third round, as they needed a replay to see off Bolton. However, they didn’t need any luck in the previous round after recording a 2-1 victory at Everton. City cruised through the opening round in the competition with a straightforward home win over Huddersfield. However, they needed to be at their best in the previous round to overcome Tottenham away from home.
Luton will be looking to reach the quarterfinal stage of the FA Cup for the first time since the 1993-94 season on Tuesday. They have lost in the fifth round on two occasions since 2012-13. Meanwhile, City have only exited the FA Cup at this stage on one occasion from Pep Guardiola’s seven attempts in the competition.
City and Luton will clash in the FA Cup for the first time since City landed a 1-0 home win in January 1969. Meanwhile, City are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with the Hatters, winning on five occasions and playing out four draws.
City look extremely challenging to bet against at Kenilworth Road this week, and we find it easier to side with the away team to cover the handicap and claim victory by a wide margin to reach the quarterfinals for the seventh time in eight seasons.
