The attention will be back on Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title on Sunday, as the Reds welcome Fulham to Anfield. The visitors ended their winless streak on Monday evening, as they claimed a dramatic 3-2 win against Wolves.
Liverpool will be excited for the remainder of the season based on the start that they have made to the campaign. The Reds come into the weekend sitting third in the overall standings, but they could end the round at the top of the table, depending on other results in the Premier League this weekend.
Liverpool have gone five without defeat in the top-flight, and huge positives would have been taken from their 1-1 draw against Manchester City last weekend. The Reds were forced to defend for long periods of that fixture, but they grabbed a dramatic equaliser in the final ten minutes after Trent Alexander-Arnold fired home from outside the box. Still, Liverpool have now drawn two of their previous three matches in the Premier League.
The pressure was eased slightly on Marco Silva on Monday night, as Fulham ended their winless sequence with a dramatic victory on home soil against Wolves. Fulham needed to ride their luck in that fixture, but were given the rub of the green after being awarded two soft penalties. Willian made no mistake on either opportunity to help secure the hosts a 3-2 win.
That victory sees Fulham come into the weekend sitting 14th in the standings, and they are now ten points clear of the drop zone. However, they will need a significant season-best performance at both ends of the field this weekend, as they have scored just 13 goals this term, and have allowed 22 goals.
Draws have been a common result when these sides have clashed, as two of the previous four have ended level. Liverpool were 1-0 winners in their previous home match against the Cottagers, while Fulham’s last win at Anfield was recorded back in March 2021.
Recent fixtures between these sides have been tight affairs. However, that isn’t likely to be the case this weekend. Liverpool have looked strong in the Premier League throughout this season, and we fully expect them to land victory this weekend by at least a two-goal margin at Anfield.
