Liverpool will be back in Premier League action on Sunday, as they look to get back to winning ways after a recent draw against Luton. In-form Brentford will be the visitors at Anfield, as they chase a fourth straight victory in the competition.
Liverpool remain locked in the battle for top spot in the Premier League standings at this stage of the season, but they will desperately be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday. The Reds were held for a second time in four matches in their previous match, as they couldn’t find the goals to land success at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town.
The dropped points mean that Liverpool remain third in the Premier League standings, and they are now three points behind Manchester City. However, the Reds remain firm favourites to get back on track in front of their home fans this weekend. Liverpool salvaged a dramatic equalizer at Luton last Sunday in the 94th minute, with Luis Diaz scoring their latest goal in the competition since December 2015.
Questions were beginning to be asked of Brentford, and whether they would get sucked into a relegation scrap after going on a long winless run following the previous international break. However, they have quickly got back on track to win each of their last three to move into the top half of the standings.
A fourth straight success in the Premier League this weekend would move the Bees to within three points of the top five spots in the competition. Brentford were excellent last weekend, as they came back from 2-1 down against West Ham to land a 3-2 success in front of their home fans.
Liverpool have won two of their previous three matches against the Bees, with both of those victories coming at Anfield. The latest of those was a 1-0 success in May. Brentford’s only league win against Liverpool in the Premier League era was a 3-1 success in January.
This should be an exciting match at Anfield on Sunday, with both Liverpool and Brentford boasting excellent quality in the final third. We could see over 2.5 goals being scored, with Liverpool edging out the Bees to bounce back to winning ways.
