Brest have been one of the surprise packages in Ligue 1 over the opening months of the season, as they currently sit in the top five spots in the standings. This weekend they will come up against Lille, who are unbeaten in their previous two matches in the competition.
Interesting action in Ligue 1 should be in store this weekend, as Brest look to continue their largely progressive start to the new season when they travel to Lille. The visitors have been one of the standout sides over the opening weeks of the season, as they have landed four victories from their opening eight matches to sit fourth in the overall standings.
They could actually finish the weekend at the top of the standings if results go their way. Brest have suffered just a single defeat from their eight outings this season, and they come into this weekend after going five without a defeat. They avoided a loss once again before the international break, as they played out a 1-1 draw against Toulouse.
Lille currently sits seventh in the Ligue 1 standings, but they could move above their rivals this weekend if they are able to pick up maximum points in front of their own fans. The French side has won three of their opening eight matches this term, and they come into the weekend after going two without a defeat.
Like Brest, Lille were held to a draw in their most recent outing before the international break. Lille would have been disappointed to pick up only a point from that fixture against Lens, as they took the lead after 45 minutes through Benjamin Andre, before the hosts were able to equalise in the second period.
Lille won the previous clash between these sides in February, which was the first time that they had claimed victory since December 2019. Brest has won two of the previous six encounters, while three of the matches over that period have ended in draws.
Draws have been extremely common when these two sides have squared off in the league. That could be an interesting trend to follow once again this weekend, as we could see under 2.5 goals being netted and the points being shared in Lille.
