Bayer Leverkusen looks unlikely to make much of a breakthrough in their hunt for a European spot this term, as they sit down in eleventh in the Bundesliga standings after eleven rounds of fixtures. They come into this Sunday’s showdown having won just once in their last five matches, and their best route back into Europe next term may come through success in the Europa League. 

However, domestically, they have claimed just eight wins from 22 games this term, and they come into this fixture after going two without a success. In their previous fixture, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Freiburg. Sardar Azmoun scored the equalising goal in that fixture with just 20 minutes remaining. But, they will need to be more effective in the final third this weekend. 

Hertha Berlin will come into this fixture full of confidence after picking up two wins from their last three matches. That run of form has eased them out of the relegation places, and they are now a point clear of the bottom three. However, they will be aware that they will need to keep picking up points, as the close nature of the battle at the bottom means that they could still get dragged back into the relegation spots.

Hertha was excellent in their previous fixture, as they recorded a 2-0 home win against Augsburg. Marcos Richter scored the opening goal of the game after 61 minutes, before the points were wrapped up with 20 minutes remaining by Dodi Lukebakio.
