It has been a strong start to the new Bundesliga season for Bayer Leverkusen, and they will be looking to continue their winning start to the campaign when they host newly promoted Darmstadt at BayArena on Saturday.
Bayer Leverkusen will have their sights set on challenging for a place in the Champions League spots this term, and they have made a reliable start to the campaign in that potential fight. Xabi Alonso’s side have won each of their opening two matches this term, and they could potentially move to the top of the standings with a victory this weekend.
Leverkusen maintained their excellent form at the start of the new campaign with a dominant showing against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, as they landed a comfortable 3-0 win on the road. Victor Boniface was in excellent form in front of goal, as he netted twice. Meanwhile, Jonathan Tah also scored in the win. Leverkusen recorded 24 shots in that win, with eleven hitting the target. Another vibrant attacking performance is likely this weekend.
It hasn’t been such a pleasing start to the new season for Darmstadt, as the newly promoted side currently sits in the automatic relegation places at this very early stage. They have lost each of their opening two matches this term, and have conceded five goals and scored just once.
They were outclassed in their second match of the season, as they were easily beaten by table-topping Union Berlin in front of their home fans. Darmstadt conceded three inside the opening 45 minutes, despite the fact that the visitors were reduced to ten men after just 21 minutes. Marvin Mehlem at least gave the home fans something to cheer about, as he netted their first goal in the Bundesliga this term.
Leverkusen have won three of the previous four clashes between these sides in the Bundesliga. That includes victories in each of the last three. The most recent clash between the teams came in April 2017, with Leverkusen landing a 2-0 win on the road.
Leverkusen have made an incredibly bright start to the new season, and we fully expect them to continue their impressive start this weekend. We expect the hosts to land a comfortable victory over Darmstadt, with over 2.5 goals being scored.
