One of the most exciting teams in Europe in 2023-24 will be looking to extend their advantage at the top of the Bundesliga standings on Wednesday. Bayer Leverkusen will be heavily favoured in the betting to claim maximum points at home against Bochum.
Xabi Alonso is quickly becoming one of the most talked about managers in world football, with no shortage of huge clubs lining up moves for the former Champions League winner. However, his focus will be on his Leverkusen side once again this week, as the German side look to extend their advantage at the top of the standings.
Leverkusen bounced back to winning ways in their last match, ending a two-game drawing sequence in the competition. It was a dominant display by Leverkusen on Sunday, as they secured a stunning 3-0 win at home against Eintracht Franfkurt. Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz both found the net in that win. The success means that Leverkusen have now made their best-ever start to the competition after picking up 39 points from their opening 15 matches. They have also netted a club record 42 goals across the opening months of the season.
Bochum should come into this match in good confidence after registering two wins in their last three matches. That is as many victories as they had recorded in their opening 12 matches in the competition this term. Their excellent recent run of results has seen them rise to 13th in the standings, and they are now six clear of the relegation places.
In fact, all three of their matches this term have come over their last six outings in the competition. That record means that they have recorded more wins over that period than they had in their last 18 Bundesliga matches combined.
Leverkusen holds the dominant advantage over Bochum after winning 19 of their 28 Bundesliga home matches against their rivals. Meanwhile, they have found the back of the net on at least one occasion in each of the last 19.
Bochum’s recent form would at least give them confidence coming into this match at BayArena. However, it’s very difficult to overlook Leverkusen, who remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga after 15 rounds of matches in 2023-24.
