Augsburg have started the 2020-21 Bundesliga season in excellent form, and they currently sit in sixth place. But, how will they be able to compete against one of the best teams in the division?
Augsburg have been one of the sides to catch the eye at this early stage of the Bundesliga season, as they currently sit in sixth position in the league table. They have won two of their four fixtures to this point, and have lost just once. However, their early season form has evaded them over the past two weeks as they will come into this fixture having failed to win in two.
After an excellent two wins on the bounce to start the season, Augsburg were held before the international break by Wolfsburg away from home. A first defeat of the season first followed after the international break as they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by RB Leipzig. It doesn’t appear as though there will be relegation problems for this team this season, but they will be keen to get back to winning ways.
Bayern Leverkusen are still trying to find their best form this season, as they started the campaign with three wins on the bounce. However, they have started to show signs of improvement over the last week, as they won their first Bundesliga fixture of the season. The first win came against Mainz, with Lucas Alario scoring the only goal of the game. Their fortunes improved further in the Europa League this past week as they hit six past Nice. Leverkusen won their opener 6-2, with Karim Bellarabi scoring a brace in the win. There were also goals in the game for Nadiem Amiri, Lucas Alario, Moussa Diaby and Florian Wirtz.
Augsburg have only ever beaten Leverkusen once, with that win coming in a friendly back in 2012. Leverkusen have won the previous four against Augsburg, including the 2-0 win that they recorded in this fixture last season. Augsburg have scored just one goal against their opponents this weekend in the previous four fixtures,
Augsburg started the season excellently, but there has been a gear change for Leverkusen over the past seven days, with their excellent 6-2 win over Nice being the standout win. It’s hard to see past the home side getting the three points from this fixture.
