PSG will be looking extend their advantage at the top of the Ligue 1 standings on Sunday when they return to action against Lens. The hosts will also be looking for a big victory, as they look to close the gap on the Champions League spots in the French top-flight.
Competitive action is on the agenda in Ligue 1 this weekend, as PSG will have the opportunity to open up a bigger advantage at the top of the league standings. The reigning champions currently sit five points clear at the summit, but that advantage could be stretched to eight points with a victory on Sunday. The Parisians have won four of their last five matches, and have already netted the most goals in the competition this term.
It has been a fine few weeks for PSG, as they easily wrapped up the Trophee des Champions in their first match in 2024 following a 2-0 success against Toulouse. That excellent win was backed up in the round of 64 in the French Cup with a 9-0 win on the road against Revel.
Lens will have a big challenge on their hands in the second half of the season, as they look to force their way back into the European positions. At present, they sit seventh in the standings after winning seven of their opening 17 matches this term. However, they currently sit two points off the top five, and seven points off the Champions League spots.
The French side have won three of their last five matches, but a response will be needed this weekend after losing their last match in Ligue 1. Their most recent loss was suffered against Nice in the league, while they were also dumped out of the cup by Monaco last weekend.
PSG have landed victories in each of their last two matches against Lens in the league. The most recent of those was a 3-1 success in August. However, Lens secured a 3-1 win in this exact fixture last term. But, that remains their only win in six previous league matches against the Parisians.
PSG have looked very strong in recent weeks, and it appears hard to overlook their chances this weekend. Therefore, we will be siding with the reigning champions landing a 2-0 win on the road.
