It has been a challenging start to the new Serie A season for Lazio, but they will have a perfect opportunity to get back on track this term when they lock horns with Torino in the Italian top flight on Wednesday evening.
A lot was expected from Lazio this term after they finished the previous campaign in excellent form to finish as the runners-up behind Napoli. However, they come into this fixture in poor recent form, as they have picked up just a single victory from their opening five matches this term. A response will be needed in front of their home fans this week.
Lazio have gone two without a win since their victory over Napoli before the international break. Most recently, they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico against Monza on Saturday evening. Lazio did take the lead in that fixture after just 12 minutes through Ciro Immobile, but that was their only shot on target in 90 minutes against their rivals.
Torino have made a stronger start to the season than their rivals this week, as they have won two of their opening five matches to sit ninth in the standings. A victory this week could see them end the round in the Champions League spots.
Confidence around the camp will be high, as they have avoided defeat in each of their last three matches in the competition. However, a two-game winning run was ended in their most recent fixture. But, Torino were still able to pick up a point, as Duvan Zapata scored a late equalising goal with just five minutes of the 90 remaining.
Bet hereTorino picked up a fine 1-0 win in this exact fixture last season, which was their first win over Lazio since May 2019. However, draws have been a common result in the previous encounters, with four of the last five ending in ties. That includes a 0-0 draw in the first meeting between the sides last term.
Torino have been in fairly reliable form in recent weeks, and they could be an interesting selection to record a second straight victory against Lazio on Wednesday. Therefore, a chance will be taken on the away side causing a minor upset in Serie A this week.
