Both Lazio and Monza have made disappointing starts to the new Serie A season. The teams both currently sit near the foot of the standings, and both will be searching for a second league win of the campaign when they lock horns this weekend.
A lot was expected from Lazio this term after they ended the previous campaign second in the standings. However, they have made a poor start to the new Italian season, as they currently sit just a point above the relegation places after four rounds of fixtures.
Lazio have picked up just one win from their opening matches this term, and they have scored just four goals across the four fixtures that they have played. The Italian giants come into this weekend after suffering a third defeat of the campaign in their most recent fixture. Lazio were outclassed in that fixture against Juventus, with their only bright spark coming in the form of Luis Alberto’s goal after 64 minutes. However, a defensive lapse allowed Juventus to re-establish their two-goal advantage just two minutes later.
Monza would have also been looking to kick on this term after an impressive debut campaign in Serie A last term. However, like their rivals this weekend, they have picked up just one win from their opening four matches this term. But, they have lost just twice in the competition, as they were held to a draw in their most recent fixture.
A first draw of the season for Monza was picked up last weekend against Lecce. The Italian side fell behind after just three minutes, but they struck back before the break, as Andrea Colpani equalised with 24 minutes on the clock. However, despite attempting 25 shots, Monza weren’t able to find the winning goal.
Lazio have an excellent record in this fixture, as they won both fixtures against Monza last term. The most recent of their wins was a 2-0 success on the road, while they picked up a 1-0 victory in Rome. Monza are yet to find the back of the net in a Serie A fixture against Lazio.
Lazio dominated the fixtures between these sides last term. However, their form at the start of the new season would be a huge concern. But, we could see them getting back on track in Serie A this weekend, as we will be siding with them picking up a victory over Monza.
