The league leaders in Serie A will be looking to extend their advantage at the summit when they return to domestic action on Sunday. Inter Milan will be chasing a third straight win when they travel to Rome to take on Lazio.
Inter Milan will be delighted with the way that the first half of the season has gone in Serie A, as they are firmly in the box seat for the title this term. The Italian giants currently lead the way in the current standings after winning 12 of their opening 18 matches. That record currently gives them a two-point advantage over Juventus.
Inter have also shown excellent form in recent weeks domestically, winning four of their last five, and each of their previous two. They put in a stunning display at the San Siro last weekend, registering a comfortable 4-0 success against Udinese. Federico Dimarco, Marcus Thuram, and Lautaro Martinez all found the back of the net in that success. However, this will be a more testing fixture on the road on Sunday.
Lazio have failed to live up to their own hype so far this term, as they have been unable to build on their impressive finish in second last term. The Italian giants currently sit tenth in the standings, as they have won six of their 15 matches in the league this term. Meanwhile, they have been a little too easy to beat after suffering six losses.
But, they do come into this upcoming round in much better form after avoiding defeat in their last two. Last weekend, they were held to a draw by Hellas Verona, with the Lazio goal being netted by Mattia Zaccagni. However, there would have been disappointment that they couldn’t hold on to maximum points.
Away victories have been a rarity when these sides have met in the league, with each of the last five being won by the hosts. Meanwhile, the last away win came back in March 2019 when Lazio won at the San Siro. Inter’s last win on the road against Lazio was recorded in 2018.
Inter’s record away from home against Lazio is a very damning trend worth considering this week. For that reason, we will be taking a chance on the points being shared on Sunday.
