Lazio vs Feyenoord Prediction: Champions League Match on 07.11.2023

After a brief break from this season’s UEFA Champions League group stages, we dive back in at the deep end. European football’s best-loved and most famous club competition continues in midweek, with Champions League games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. The biggest attractions are live on television and live-streaming apps, allowing armchair fans and those making predictions to get even closer to the action. The 22Bet expert football content team previews the most exciting and important games.

The fixture that caught our eye from Sunday’s schedule and we preview on this page comes from Italy, where Serie A side Lazio takes on Dutch Eredivisie team Feyenoord from 20:00 GMT in Group E. The other game played in the pool that evening pairs Atletico Madrid and Celtic in the Spanish capital, and you can read our in-depth preview and predictions elsewhere on this site. Before that, let’s get into the thick of Lazio v Feyenoord, which promises to be a thriller.

Lazio remains in the running

Champions League Group E is beginning to take shape after three games played, but there’s still all on the line, with five points separating top from bottom and nine points still to be won. Lazio enters this contest third in the list, ahead of bottom club Celtic but behind Feyenoord and Atletico Madrid. With the La Liga team expected to win at home against the Scottish Premiership champions, it piles pressure on Lazio to make home advantage count. If they lose this, they could be playing for third place and Europa League football.

Lazio have played three Group E games and have an even split of one win, one draw, and a defeat, scoring four goals but conceding five. They got off the mark with a draw before winning against Celtic and losing last time to Feyenoord in Holland. Lazio knows they must collect a maximum of three points in Italy on Tuesday to give themselves the best chance of going through. Victory would ensure Lazio remain in the running to finish in pole position. But they must rediscover the kind of form that saw them defeat the Hoops.

Feyenoord leads the way

Feyenoord started the campaign as a team expected to fight for a second-place finish behind pool favourites Atletico Madrid, but they are performing better than many pundits predicted. With three group games on the board and every team playing every other side in the pool once, we head into the second half of the group campaign with Feyenoord sitting in pole position as the team to beat. They’ve played three, won two, and lost one, scoring seven goals and conceding four.

Feyenoord won the first of a doubleheader against Lazio, claiming three points in the Netherlands a fortnight ago. In what had been billed as a potentially explosive encounter, the Dutch giants held their nerve and, spurred on by a huge audience, they claimed the desired result thanks to a stunning 3-1 final score. Goals from Zerrouki and a Gimenez double helped Feyenoord to an important home win. If they can complete the double by taking three points in Italy, it would move them to within touching distance of the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Lazio v Feyenoord prediction

How will this game play out in Italy? The home team knows they were out-played, out-muscled, and out-fought in Holland on matchday three, meaning improvement is required across the park. They must defend better and take their chances in attack, but there has been little to suggest Lazio is good enough to go through. They beat Celtic for their only previous win but needed a 95th-minute goal to get across the line.

Feyenoord has one foot in the next round after beating Celtic on matchday one and Lazio last time out in the Netherlands. They are already two points clear of their hosts heading into this contest and know another win would move them five clear with six points left to claim. The visitors are in a commanding position and know their hosts must go on the attack as the win is more important to them.
