Kosovo and Belarus bring their Group I qualifying campaign to a close on Tuesday when they lock horns. Neither nation can finish in the top two positions, but the hosts will be looking for a victory that could see them end the campaign in third position.
It has been an exciting qualifying campaign in Group I, but the race has already been run by Kosovo and Belarus in their bid to reach the EUROs. Instead, this final day showdown will determine the side that finishes fourth in the standings, while Kosovo could yet finish in third position if they are able to land maximum points this week.
It has been an encouraging qualifying campaign for Kosovo, as they have won two of their nine internationals. Meanwhile, only the top two teams in the group have suffered fewer defeats than the hosts this week. Kosovo have scored an impressive ten goals in their internationals, but they have averaged a goal against in every match during the qualifying campaign.
Belarus are currently fifth in the overall standings, but they could end the campaign in fourth if they are able to land maximum points in their final match in Group I. They come into this match after winning two of their nine matches, but they have suffered defeats in four matches already in Group I.
Belarus will take confidence from their recent form in the group, as they have gone three without defeat. They were nervy in their final home match in the group over the weekend, as they edged out a 1-0 success against Andorra. Their winning goal was netted with seven minutes remaining by Denis Laptev.
This is only the second time that these two nations have locked horns. The previous encounter came in June, as Belarus landed a 2-1 home success. All three goals in that match were netted in the final 20 minutes, but Kosovo were unfortunate not to have picked up a draw.
Kosovo have been challenging to beat throughout this qualification campaign, and that will give them confidence coming into this final day showdown against Belarus. Therefore, we will be keen to take a chance on the home side ending the Group I campaign with maximum home points against Belarus on Tuesday.
