It has been a disastrous start to the new Bundesliga season for FC Köln, and they come into the first round of fixtures following the international break in the bottom three places in the standings. A response will be expected when they host Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.
There are already concerns that this season could turn into a huge disappointment for FC Köln even at this very early stage. The German side currently sits in the bottom two places in the league standings, and they are one of three sides that are still waiting for their first win of the new campaign.
Köln are the lowest scorers in the division at this stage, as they have found the back of the net on just four occasions. There will be limited confidence within the camp coming into the weekend, as they have suffered four straight defeats in the Bundesliga, and they have picked up just a single point from their opening seven matches. They were easily beaten before the international break, as Bayer Leverkusen landed a straightforward 3-0 win in the derby at BayArena.
Borussia Monchengladbach will also be hoping for better as the season resumes this weekend, as they sit in the bottom half of the standings after seven rounds of matches. They have picked up just six points from their matches this term, with their only win coming in the form of a 3-1 success in their previous match on the road against Bochum.
They do at least come into this match having built some positive momentum before the international break, as Gladbach have gone two without a defeat. A victory this weekend could lift them up to tenth, but they will need to be much stronger defensively after already allowing 16 goals this term.
This exact fixture ended in a 0-0 draw last season. However, Gladbach won the first clash between the sides in 2022-23 by a 5-2 scoreline. Köln’s overall record in this fixture remains positive, as they have won three of the last five.
Both of these sides will be hoping for better performances when the Bundesliga season resumes this weekend. However, it could be challenging to overlook Gladbach based on the issues that Köln have had in front of goal so far this term.
