KHL President Alexei Morozov shared his expectations for the upcoming season, which will begin on September 2.
“Let’s start with the fact that the new season will be the first with a strict salary cap. It is already clear how the lineups are being aligned; many have strengthened well. We will see an increase in the competitive environment, which means bright and persistent matches and an increase in interest among fans of our game. Together with everyone, I missed big hockey and, like all fans, I am looking forward to the start of the championship.
Fans’ admission situation? Our position has remained the same: hockey is for spectators, and it is necessary to let the fans into the arenas. It is required to follow the recommendations of the regional authorities, and also see how many fans the arena can accommodate, provided that all safety measures are observed. This issue is a priority for the clubs; therefore, it is the clubs that work out the best solution. As of August 30, matches without spectators will have to be held in Kazakhstan, Cherepovets and Novosibirsk. In other arenas, the capacity varies. There is no universal formula here, and there cannot be. To date, some clubs have already announced how they will operate, how many season tickets have been sold and still will be sold, and how many tickets will be put on sale,” the KHL official website quotes Morozov.
