For just the second time this year, Kenya will take to the field to compete in an international fixture. Their campaign has been littered by cancellations throughout 2023, with all of their Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches called off since the start of last year. However, they will be bidding to build momentum when they return to action for the first time since March on Monday. 

Kenya were last in action on March 28, as they played out a 2-1 loss away from home against Iran. They held their own for long periods of that match against an esteemed opponent, and took an early advantage in the second half through Michael Olunga. However, Iran eventually turned the tide in their favour with goals in the 76th and 84th minutes. 

Djibouti will also be looking for a bright end to their season of internationals, as they look to get back on track after falling at early hurdles in World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifications. They exited World Cup contention in the second round after defeats against Burkina Faso and Algeria, before they lost against Niger and South Sudan to end their hopes of reaching the Africa Cup of Nations.

This will only be a sixth clash between these African nations, and it will be the first since Kenya landed a 2-0 win in the CECAFA Cup in December 2009. All previous encounters between the sides have been won by Kenya, while Djibouti has scored just three goals in the last five encounters.
