Juventus don’t look as though they are ready to hand over their Serie A title just yet, as there have been signs of recovery over recent weeks. The Old Lady will be looking for a second consecutive win as they host Lazio on Saturday.
Juventus are still in the title fight in Italy, but there is a big difference to make up at present. The Old Lady have been inconsistent throughout the season to this point, and that is evident by their position in third in the league standings. Juventus haven’t been able to go on the same winning run that has been a trademark to their success over recent years so far this season, and that will need to change if they are to regain their Serie A crown this term. Juventus have at least been more difficult to beat recently, as they have lost just once in six, and they will be looking for a third win in four games in Serie A this weekend. The Old Lady were emphatic in their last league game, as they beat Spezia 2-0 on Tuesday day. Alvaro Morata, Federico Chiesa and Cristiano Ronaldo scored the goals for Juventus, with all of the goals coming in the second half.
Lazio have lost two of their last three, which has impacted their chances of a Champions League finish this season. Despite that, they are just a point outside of the Europa League places, and a return to winning ways against Juventus will be a huge morale booster for the team going into a tricky run of fixtures. Lazio were beaten by Bologna in their last game, which allowed Verona to close the gap on them to just five points. They will need to produce a much better display against Juventus this weekend.
This is one of the great Italian rivalries, but Lazio have found wins hard to come by against Juventus in recent seasons. They have won once in the last six, with Juventus having picked up four wins during that run. However, the previous fixture between the two rivals ended in a 1-1 draw.
Juventus looked back to somewhere near their best against Spezia in the week, and we expect them to continue to build on that performance with a controlled win against Lazio this weekend.
