Juventus’ stranglehold on the Coppa Italia was ended last season as they were beaten in the final by Napoli. However, they will be looking to regain the domestic title this season, and will be looking to make it through to the quarterfinals with a win against Genoa.

Andrea Pirlo will be aware that he must deliver at least one piece of silverware this season, otherwise his security as head coach will be up for debate. The Coppa Italia will be seen as a low priority for Juventus, but it will still be a competition that they will expect to win. The Old Lady have been in excellent form over recent weeks, and come into this match off the back of a three-match winning sequence. There is no doubting that Genoa’s main priority this season will be to secure their safety in Serie A. They are sitting just outside the relegation places at present with a two-point advantage over Torino. They managed to move outside of the bottom three with a win in their last fixture, as they beat Bologna 2-0. Miha Zajc and Mattia Destro scored either side of half-time in that success. It was a much better performance in that game, but coming up against the defending Serie A champions means that there will be a massive challenge to make it through in the Coppa Italia.

The Old Lady have won their last three against Genoa. Two of these wins have come with 3-1 scorelines. Genoa’s last win in this fixture came in March 2019, which is their only win in eight against Juventus.
