Juventus put a difficult summer behind them on matchday one, as they kicked off their 2023-24 campaign with maximum points. They will be looking to continue that momentum on Sunday when they play host to Bologna.
The 2022-23 season was a huge disappointment for Juventus, as they never threatened to get involved in the race for the title. However, their entire focus will be on the domestic prize this season, as they will not be involved in any European competition. The Old Lady made a winning start to the 2023-24 season, as they comfortably landed maximum points on the road against Udinese.
All three of their goals in that win were netted in the opening half, with Federico Chiesa breaking the deadlock after just two minutes. Despite being linked with a move away from the club, Dusan Vlahovic added a second from the penalty spot, before Adrien Rabiot netted the third on the stroke of half time. Juventus have an excellent record in their first home match of the new season, as they have lost on just two from the previous 59 campaigns.
Bologna made a disappointing start to their 2023-24 season, as they were easily beaten in front of their home fans by AC Milan on Monday night. Both of the Milan goals were netted inside the opening 21 minutes, and Bologna offered little in the final third to try and get back into the contest in the second period.
However, Bologna haven’t lost their opening two matches at the start of a Serie A campaign since the 2015-16 season. But, they will be coming up against a side that have beaten them more often than any other team in Serie A history.
Juventus have a staggering record in this fixture, as they are unbeaten in their last 22 league matches against Bologna. Over that period, they have recorded 17 wins, with Bologna picking up just five points. Bologna have recorded just one win in 41 top-flight fixtures against the Old Lady.
The signs certainly look good for Juventus this weekend, as they boast an incredible record in this fixture. For that reason, we struggle to overlook the hosts, and we expect the Old Lady to easily secure a 2-0 win over Bologna at the Allianz Stadium.
