Juventus’ Serie A title could be slipping away judging by their recent results, as they trail the league leaders by ten points. However, they will be able to get back to winning ways this weekend against Bologna.
There are already questions being asked about the long-term future of Andrea Pirlo, as Juventus are struggling to get anywhere near the front runners as we reach the half-way point of the Serie A season. The Old Lady have found consistency hard to come by, and have been beaten twice in their last five games. That run of form means that there is now a ten-point difference between themselves and AC Milan. Pirlo’s misery was compounded last time out, as Juventus were beaten by last season’s runners-up Inter Milan. The defeat ended a run of three consecutive wins, and has raised questions whether this is the season that their stranglehold on the top Italian league finally comes to an end. Juventus will be keen to take each game as it comes, which means a win against Bologna is essential to their chances.
Bologna have proven to be a tough side to beat over recent weeks in Serie A, as they have lost just once in six league outings. They are also a side that don’t win many games, as they have picked up maximum points in just one of their six recent outings. However, they will come into this game in good confidence, as they picked up three points in their last league game against Hellas Verona. The only goal was scored by Riccardo Orsolini in that game, but it was an excellent team effort to get the win. They allowed just one shot on target at their goal, and registered 20 shots of their own.
Juventus haven’t lost to Bologna in Serie A for ten years, and have won the last seven meetings between the sides. The Old Lady won the home meeting between the sides 2-1 last season, before winning the return fixture in June 2-0.
There is a feeling that Juventus need to start winning games quickly if they have any hope of regaining their title this season. Bologna will come into the game with confidence, but Juventus have a tendency to win games when the pressure is on.
