One of the most interesting ties in the quarterfinal stages of the Europa League will see Inter Milan taking on Bayer Leverkusen at the Esprit Arena. But, which of these huge sides will be able to progress?

Inter Milan may have been hoping to reach this stage of the Champions League this season, but they will certainly take a quarterfinal appearance in the Europa League as a consolation price. Inter were placed into the Europa League at the start of 2020 after finishing third in their Champions League group. There was no shame in that, as they were in a group along side Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.
Since dropping into the Europa League, they have scored at least two goals in every game, and they were able to continue that run with a 2-0 success over Getafe. They took the lead in that fixture against the run of play as Romelu Lukaku fired home in the first half. However, Getafe should have gotten back on level terms but Jorge Molina Vidal missed from 12 yards out from the penalty spot. Inter made them pay for this miss ten minutes later as Christian Eriksen secured Inter’s place with a second goal of the game.
It was a much more relaxed performance from Bayer Leverkusen, as they already held a 3-1 lead from their first leg against Rangers. Bayer were able to take the game away from Gers in the second leg as they secured a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Moussa Diaby six minutes into the second half. The German side may feel as though they have an advantage in this competition since all of the Europa League games are being played in Germany, but this will be a huge challenge against a talented Inter Milan side.

This will be third time that these two sides have faced off against each other. Bayer Leverkusen are yet to record a win against the Italians, as Inter have won both previous matches.

Inter were a little sluggish against Getafe in the round of 16 fixture, and they will have to be much more alert to claim the win against this Bayer side. Leverkusen will be looking to use the Europa League as their passage through to the Champions League this season, and Kai Havertz may be the important man on the field. The preference would be for Leverkusen to edge this fixture.
