Inter Milan has endured mixed fortunes since the return of domestic action in Italy. They claimed Suppercoppa success against AC Milan last week, but they have dropped to a defeat in their previous two league fixtures. Still, they remain second overall in the Serie A standings.

Inter claimed a first Coppa Italia success in over ten years last term and they will be optimistic about defending their title this season. The Italian giants avoided a scare to make it through to this stage of the competition, as they needed an 88th minute Lautaro Martinez goal to force extra time against Parma in the middle of January. They then netted the winner with just ten minutes remaining of extra time through Francesco Acerbi.

Atalanta will be full of confidence coming into this fixture, as they have broken into the top four in Serie A after a solid run of form. They have gone five without defeat in the league, and have won three of their previous four fixtures in the Italian top-flight. However, they have only won this honour on one previous occasion, with that success coming back in the 1962-63 season.

Atalanta came up against Spezia in the previous round of the Coppa Italia, but they eased through to the quarterfinals with a comfortable 5-2 win. Ademola Lookman scored a brace in that success, with Hans Hateboer and Rasmus Hojlund also netting goals.
