Inter Milan’s job in Serie A is already complete this season, as they have won their first league title for ten years. However, they will be hoping to end the season on a high, as they play their penultimate home game of the season against AS Roma.
It has been a vintage season for Inter Milan in 2020-21, and they will be looking to end the season with three more wins. No side in the major European leagues have lost fewer games than Inter this term, as they have been beaten on just two occasions. Inter have been a machine throughout the season, as they have failed to win on just nine occasions from the 35 games that they have played. It has been their form in the second half of the season that has been the driving force towards their success. Their recent form has also remained strong, as they have claimed six victories from their last six games. That includes three consecutive victories. Their most recent win was a 5-1 hammering of Sampdoria. Alexis Sanchez scored twice, while Lautaro Martinez and Andrea Pinamonti also got themselves a goal.
Roma’s form in the second half of the season couldn’t have been more contrasting to Inter’s. They have fallen out of the European places altogether over recent weeks, and it looks unlikely that they will get back in the hunt with three games remaining. Roma are six points off Lazio, which means it’s likely that the Italian giants will kickstart their first season with Jose Mourinho with no European football. Roma picked up a first win in five last time out, as they beat Crotone 5-0. Borja Mayoral and Lorenzo Pellegrini both scored two goals each, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan also got a goal.
Despite Inter’s progressive performances of the last couple of seasons, they have still failed to beat Roma. The last six meetings between these sides have ended in draws. The two most recent games have both ended in 2-2 draws. Meanwhile, Inter’s last win came in August 2017, while Roma’s last win came in February 2017.
Inter have struggled against Roma in recent seasons, but it looks unlikely that they will have the same problems this weekend. We fully expect the Serie A champions to take maximum points at the San Siro.
