Inter Milan v Juventus Prediction: Coppa Italia Match on 26.04.2023

Football fans have a busy midweek ahead with games of note planned across Europe. Important games come thick and fast as the top competitions and leagues race toward the finish. Teams are battling for points in England as leaders Arsenal host champions Man City. You can read our big-match preview and follow predictions on this site. But here, we focus on the action from Italy, where Inter Milan plays Juventus in Coppa Italia. With the aggregate score locked at 1-1 following the semi-final first leg, there’s all to play for in Milan.

Neither team involved in Wednesday’s clash will win this year’s Serie A title. That award is most likely destined for Naples, but nothing has been decided yet. Milan and Juventus know their only hope of success in the coming weeks and salvaging their season comes from lifting this trophy. It would dampen fans’ disappointment while building optimism ahead of next season. Which side will make it through to the final, where they’ll have a shot at making history and ending on a high?

The stats may be useful when previewing this game and looking for the best predictions. Inter and Juve have met three times this season, with the Old Lady unbeaten in that period. Juventus has two wins over Milan, with the most recent game ending in a 1-1 draw. All three have been incredibly tight, and another action-packed 90 minutes + awaits. The teams drew last time, but this game will produce a winner with extra time and penalties available if required. Keep reading for our Inter Milan v Juventus prediction.

Inter held their own

Inter Milan was drawn away from home for the first leg of this semi-final and knew they had to avoid a heavy defeat. Milan travelled to face Juve, knowing they had to stay in the game and ensure things were competitive when the tie moved to Milan. Milan did that because they targeted a draw or narrow defeat to give themselves a fighting chance. They held on for an impressive 1-1 draw in Turin and will now believe they are in the driving seat to make the final. This is a one-game shoot-out with Inter backed by their supporters.

Inter Milan’s league campaign has been forgettable despite holding their own in the cup. They started the season as one of the teams to watch, and many respected pundits picked Milan to challenge for the title again, but things haven’t gone to plan. The locals have won 17 games, drawn three, and lost 11, scoring 51 goals and conceding 34. The 54 points collected mean Milan is two behind Roma and the top four. Finishing in the Champions League places is a must, but it shouldn’t distract them from chasing glory in this tournament.

We last saw Inter Milan in action at the weekend when they scored a long and overdue win thanks to a 3-0 result away to Empoli. That’s the club’s only win in five, and it arrived following three defeats and a draw. They may set up with the confidence that comes from winning just a few days ago, but that only papers over the cracks. The home players must leave their troubles at the door and enjoy playing knockout cup football.

Old Lady has a fighting chance

Juventus may have missed the chance to win at home in the first leg and take the lead to Milan, but they have a fighting chance. Fans would’ve liked to see their team take a two-goal advantage or more into this fixture, but they were held to a 1-1 at home after missing a hatful of chances to win the game. They haven’t been near their best this season, but Juventus have the kind of cup-winning experience most European teams would be proud to own. They know how to get the job done when the chips are down.

Juventus is currently third in Serie A, with their stats showing 18 wins, five draws, and eight defeats, with 47 goals scored and 26 conceded. Their defence has been impressive but must be at its best midweek if Juve progresses to the final. The visitors also arrive following a dreadful run of form that has seen them lose each of their last three games. That dip in form came at the wrong time, and the club is in danger of losing its position and falling out of the four UCL places.

Juve lost against Napoli in Turin at the weekend, with the league leaders scoring a 1-0 victory in a competitive 90 minutes. The winning goal was scored by Raspadori with 93 minutes on the clock in what was a late smash-and-grab on the points. The Juve defence stood tall but was eventually broken in the closing seconds. A return to winning ways is the only option if they are to make it through to the final.

Inter Milan v Juventus prediction

What a game we have in store here. Both teams are fighting for a top-four finish in Serie A but have an opportunity to forget about pursuing league points for the evening. The first leg was cagey, with neither team willing to take chances. But that will change here as both managers know they must go on the attack if they are to win. Juve’s three-game losing streak makes them challenging to back, and we believe the home side may nick a win.
