Andrea Pirlo would have known before taking the Juventus job that there was a lot of work to do. However, his side are playing catch up in the title race at this stage of the season, and can’t afford any more dropped points this term, which means that they must win against Hellas Verona on Saturday.
Serie A Preview
Juventus can’t afford any more slip ups this season, as they need to track down the runaway leaders if they are to successfully defend their Serie A title this season. The Old Lady are currently eight points behind Inter Milan, who are the league leaders, and also four points behind AC Milan, who are now in second spot. Juventus have failed to find the momentum that makes them a daunting side in Italy throughout the season so far, as they have lost once in their past three, and twice in their previous six. They did however move back into third last weekend with a victory against Crotone. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in that win, while Weston McKennie was also on the scoresheet. Juventus were dominant in that game, and they will need to reach those levels again this weekend.
Verona are in a precarious position at present, as they are in ninth position in the league standings. It looks massively unlikely that they will get relegated this season, but their form isn’t consistent enough to emerge as a leading side to challenge for a Europa League place. Instead, Verona may be thinking that a place in eighth may illustrate an excellent season this term, as they would be the best placed side outside of the leading clubs this season. They have been in steady form recently, as they have won once in their last two, and two in their previous five.
Hellas Verona vs Juventus Head To Head
Juventus have slipped up against Verona in recent meetings, as they have gone two without a win against their opponents this weekend. The two sides played out a draw earlier in the season, while Verona won the last time that Juventus played away from home in this fixture. The last four meetings between the sides have seen the sides separated by a solitary goal.
Hellas Verona vs Juventus Prediction
Verona do have a decent recent record against Juventus, and that does bold well for this fixture at the weekend. However, we expect the Old Lady to claim a nervy win, as they close the gap on the top of the league.
