Two sides that are still looking for a first league win of the season in La Liga will lock horns on Saturday. Granada currently sit bottom of the standings, while Mallorca have picked up just a single point from a possible six over the opening two weekends.
La Liga Preview
There will be pressure on the hosts this weekend in La Liga, as Granada will need to start picking up points quickly if they are to avoid getting dragged into a battle at the bottom of the standings this term. At present, they sit bottom of the standings after two rounds of matches, as they have allowed five goals and scored just once.
A sign of their troubles was evident in their second match of the season on Monday evening, as they were easily beaten by Rayo Vallecano in front of their home fans. Granada appear to lack quality in the final third of the field, as they failed to convert despite managing seven shots on target in that loss. To make matters worse, they will be without Antonio Puertas this weekend after the star was sent off with four minutes remaining.
Mallorca have fared marginally better over their opening two matches in La Liga this term, as they have picked up one point from their matches so far this season. Their only point was picked up on the opening weekend of the season, as they were held on the road by newly-promoted Las Palmas.
However, they were beaten for the first time this season on Friday evening, as they lost 1-0 against Villarreal. They conceded the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute, but offered little in the final third to trouble their rivals.
Granada boasts a fine recent record in this fixture, as they have won six of the previous ten against Mallorca. Over that period, the visitors have registered just one win. Granada also come into this showdown after winning each of the last four encounters, which includes a 4-1 win in this exact fixture last term and a 6-2 success in the reverse.
Granada have really struggled across their opening two matches this term, but this could be a good fixture to get them back on track. Their dominant record against Mallorca is challenging to overlook, and therefore a home win could be the most likely outcome.
