In the midst of uncertainty, all teams in La Liga might have to prepare themselves playing behind closed doors. These two dark horses this season, Granada and Getafe are likely to do the same. Granada, which is currently on the ninth of the table, will be hosting Getafe. The visitor’s side is competing for Champions League spot for next season. It will be an exciting clash as both have quite a contrastive trend in the past four matches. The host has been unbeaten while Getafe has only managed to win once.
Last week, Granada was only able to snatch one point in their visit to Levante’s home turf. They were held by the host 1-1. Levante’s Roger Marti took the lead first before the Venezuelan Darwin Machis equalised as he tucked in the ball at the back of the host’s net.
Meanwhile, Getafe failed to win against Celta Vigo at home last weekend. Jaime Mata and Co were held in a goalless draw despite dominating the game. This result made them lose their top-four spot on the table as their contender, Real Sociedad, could secure three points and topple them.
Diego Martinez seems to opt for employing various formations from 5-4-1, 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3. He mainly relies on Carlos Fernandez or the former Valencia and Tottenham frontman, Roberto Soldado as the target man supported by Antonio Puertas and Darwin Machis.
Jose Bordalas is mainly in favour of 4-4-2 this season. His number one forwards are Angel Rodriguez or Deyverson and Jaime Mata supported by Barcelona’s loanee Marc Cucurella and the Cameroonian Alan Nyom. This pragmatic tactical approach seems to have been working well.
Granada’s top performers this season are the Venezuelan connections, the defensive midfielder Yangel Herrera with two goals and assists each, Darwin Machis with six goals and three assists, plus the twenty-three-year-old local talent, Carlos Fernandez who has netted five goals and provided three assists. Other notable ones are Maxime Gonalons and Roberto Soldado.
Getafe has been counting on experienced players in this season more than the youngsters apart from a few names such as Marc Cucurela, Nemanja Maksimovic and the Uruguayan Mauro Arambarri as their key figures of the team. Their top performers are Jaime Mata who is already 31 years of age, the 31-year old right wing-back Damien Suarez and even thirty-two-year-old forward, Angel Rodriguez.
Considering the rather unsatisfactory form of Pepe Bordalas’s men, Maxime Gonalons and Co should have the advantage to seal a win at home. Darwin Machis might be the key man again as he has been done so lately. A narrow win for the host seems plausible.
According to the punters, apparently, the visitor is the slight favourite. They are backed to win at 2.70, whereas the draw result is at 2.85. Granada is only projected to win at 3.00.
