There will be pressure on Girona when play resumes in La Liga this weekend following the international break. The Spanish side will have the home field advantage as they chase an important return to winning ways against Real Betis.
The race for a European finish in La Liga continues following the international break on Saturday. Girona will be under pressure for the first time this term, as they have slipped to third in the standings after losing two of their last three matches in the competition. But, they could move back into second in the standings if they are able to claim victory at home against Real Betis this weekend.
Girona have lost three of their last five matches in the competition, which is as many defeats as they had suffered in their opening 22 matches in the league this term. It was the manner of their defeat, which would have been most concerning for Girona on the previous matchday, as they very rarely threatened when dropping to a 1-0 away defeat against Getafe.
Real Betis have endured a stop-start season in the league this season, but they remain in with a chance of finishing in a European position at this stage. Betis currently sit seventh in the standings, and they could move to within a point of sixth-place Real Sociedad if they are able to claim maximum points this weekend.
However, their recent form in the league is a considerable concern coming into this round of matches. Betis have suffered losses in each of their last three matches, and they have picked up just a single victory over their last five in the league. Betis were last in action before the international break when dropping to a 2-0 away loss against Rayo Vallecano.
Real Betis have dominated their previous clashes with Girona, winning nine of the last 12. Over that same period, Girona has recorded just a single victory. The visitors this weekend have landed wins in five of the last six La Liga clashes between the teams.
The away team’s record in this fixture deserves respect, but Betis have struggled on the road throughout this season. Therefore, it could be worth siding with the teams playing out a draw for the second time this season.
