The action in La Liga gets underway on Friday, as Girona will be looking for maximum points which could send them to the top of the standings. Celta Vigo will be the visitors this week, as they chase a victory that will move them out of the bottom three.
It has been a surprising start to the season for Girona, as they currently sit in the middle of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the league standings. They have won eight of their opening ten league matches this term, with their only defeat coming against Real Madrid before the international break.
However, Girona have bounced back from that setback in excellent style after winning each of their previous two matches in La Liga. That return to form leaves them second on goal difference at present. But, a third straight victory in the competition this weekend would take them to the top of the standings. Genoa were excellent once again last weekend, as they landed a 5-2 home win against Almeria. Artem Dovbyk scored a brace in that handsome success.
The Rafael Benitez impact hasn’t yet rubbed off on Celta Vigo, as they remain in the bottom three places in the La Liga standings. They have picked up just a single victory from their opening ten matches, and they have suffered six defeats already this term. Celta comes into this match after going five without a win, but a success on Friday would lift them out of the bottom three.
Vigo suffered a third defeat in five last weekend, as they were comfortably beaten in front of their home fans by Atletico Madrid. However, Celta were forced to play the best part of an hour of that match without Ivan Villar, who was sent off after 25 minutes.
Celta have gone three without defeat against Girona in La Liga, which includes a 1-0 success in this exact fixture last term. However, Girona have still won two of their previous three home league matches against Celta in the top flight.
Girona’s start to the season is the very obvious betting angle this weekend, and it looks hard to overlook their recent dominance in the top flight. Therefore, it could be worth siding with the hosts to land a third victory on the bounce on Friday.
