The pressure on the biggest nations in the African continent will be stepped up a gear this weekend, as the 2024 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations gets underway. Ghana have been one of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament, having won the top prize on four previous occasions. Ghana will certainly be looking for a renewed effort in the Ivory Coast this year after crashing out in the group stage in the previous edition for the first time since 2006. Cape Verde will be looking to upset the odds at AFCON this year, as they bid to make a shock run to the next stage of the competition. Cape Verde exceeded expectations to reach the round of 16 in the previous edition of the tournament, and they will be making their fourth ever appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations this year. 

They should come into the tournament in good form after going two internationals without defeat. Their most recent success was a 2-0 win against Eswatini in late November.
