Barcelona’s charge toward the La Liga title continues this weekend, as they could move 16 points clear of Real Madrid. The league leaders travel to Getafe, who have lost just once in their previous five league matches in Spain.
It has been a season to remember for Barcelona, and they have been edging closer toward wrapping up the league title since the turn of the year. The Spanish giants come into this fixture on Saturday after winning four of the previous five La Liga fixtures. However, they were held to a slightly disappointing draw in their most recent fixture against Girona.
But, Barcelona’s away form this season has remained incredibly strong. They have won 12 of their 14 games away from the Nou Camp in the league, and they are also yet to draw a game on the road at this stage of the season for the first time in their history. However, Barcelona has lost seven of their previous ten against teams based in Madrid, with just two wins having been recorded over that period.
Getafe comes into this game in their best form of the season, as they have moved up to 15th in the standings after losing just once in their previous five matches. However, that defeat did come in their previous match in La Liga. Still, they hold a three-point advantage over the teams in the relegation places at present.
Their home form has been a big reason for the turnaround in recent weeks, as they have gone four without defeat at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Over that period, they have recorded wins in each of their last three. They last recorded four successive home wins on the bounce in February 2022.
Barcelona has a poor recent record in previous visits to Getafe, as they have failed to score or win in their last two. However, Getafe has won just 8.6% of the matches that they have played against Barcelona, with three wins being registered in 35 previous meetings.
Barcelona can almost taste the title at this stage of the season, and they could take another step toward achieving that target this weekend. Despite having a poor recent record away from home against Getafe, we struggle to see anything other than a narrow Barcelona win on Sunday.
