Germany continue their preparations for the European Championships on Tuesday evening, as they bid to end their winless sequence. Colombia will be the visitors to the Veltins Arena, as the South American nation also kicks up their preparations ahead of the Copa America.
The pressure is already building on Hansi Flick ahead of the European Championships next summer, as big things will be expected from this Germany side at their home tournament. However, things aren’t exactly going to plan at this stage, as they have won just one of their four international matches this calendar year. The former Bayern Munich boss already has pressure on his shoulders after the Germans crashed out at the group stage for the second successive edition of the World Cup in late 2022.
Germany come into this friendly against Colombia in Hamburg after losing their previous match against Poland. It wasn’t for the lack of trying in that contest, as Germany managed to register a total of 26 shots, including nine on target. However, they fell to defeat after Poland scored the winning goal with their only shot on target after 32 minutes.
Colombia will also have questions to answer ahead of this international fixture, as they missed out on World Cup qualification last year. Their main focus will now be on the Copa America next summer, as they bid to get back on track after a shaky couple of years on the field.
However, they come into this fixture in good recent form, as they have won each of their last two international matches. The most recent of those was a 1-0 home success against Iraq. While it wasn’t the most commanding of performances, they would have grew confidence from the fact that they were able to win ugly against a defensive rival.
Germany are unbeaten in four international clashes against Colombia, and they have scored at least three goals in each of the last three. The most recent clash between the nations came in June 2006, with Germany landing a comprehensive 3-0 home win.
Germany’s performances in recent weeks have been concerning, especially with less than 12 months to go before the start of the EUROs. However, this is a good opportunity to get back into the win column against a nation that they have a good record against. We will be siding with a win for Germany.
