There will be an important fixture in Group A of EURO qualification on Tuesday, as both Norway and Georgia look to get off the mark. Both sides have failed to pick up a single point so far, with Norway competing for the second time in Group A.
This fixture looks set to be crucial for both Georgia and Norway in their race for second spot in Group A. There will be increased pressure on Norway, as they have already taken to the field on one occasion already in qualification. However, they weren’t able to get off to a strong start in qualifying, as they were easily brushed aside by Spain away from home.
Spain took the lead after just 13 minutes, and Norway offered extremely little in the way of a response. The visitors registered just two shots on target from their 36% of the possession, with Spain later adding two further goals to highlight their dominance in Group A. This already appears to be a must-not-lose match for the visitors if they have hopes of reaching EURO 2024.
Georgia is the only nation yet to compete in a fixture in Group A. They will be considered as massive underdogs to reach EURO 2024, as they have never previously reached the European Championships. In the previous round of qualifying for the tournament, they registered three wins from ten matches, but their five losses were ultimately costly.
The nation does come into this game in good confidence, as they enjoyed an excellent run in the Nations League last year. They managed to top Group C4 after winning five of their six matches. Those performances ensure that they have at least a playoff option if they fail to finish in the first two.
This is the fourth international meeting between Norway and Georgia. Each of the previous three has been won by Norway. However, this is the first meeting between the nations since Norway picked up a 1-0 win in May 1999.
This could be a very close match up in Group A, based on Georgia’s performances in the Nations League last year. We don’t expect Norway to have things all their own way, but we could see them coming out on top with both sides finding the net.
