The race for a spot in the group stage at the EUROs reaches its conclusion in midweek, as the winner of Path C will be determined. Both Georgia and Greece will have their sights set on a spot in Group F this summer, but which nation will be on their way to Germany?
A busy night of international action will be headlined by the final playoff matches for a spot at EURO 2024. Georgia and Greece both assured their passage through to this stage with excellent performances in the semi-final stage, but only one of the countries will secure a place in Group F this summer.
Greece have had a love affair with the major tournament throughout their history, famously winning EURO 2004 to win a maiden honour. That means that they are just one of ten teams to have won the competition throughout its history. However, they haven’t managed to gain qualification to the tournament in each of the last two editions since reaching the quarterfinal stage in 2012.
Greece were in excellent form in their semi-final showdown with Kazakhstan last week, landing a comfortable 5-0 home success on that occasion. Four of their efforts were netted in the first 45 minutes, with goals being scored by Dimitros Pelkas, Fotis Ioannidis, and Anastasios Bakasetas.
Georgia will have the important home field advantage for this showdown on Tuesday. They will be looking to reach the EURO finals for the first time in their history. They have already enjoyed their best qualifying campaign, recording their most wins since the opening round for the 1996 EUROs.
Georgia were professional in their semi-final clash against Luxembourg last week, with both of their efforts being netted either side of the half time break by Budu Zivzivadze.
Georgia have never previously recorded a victory against Greece in nine previous encounters. Greece have recorded seven victories, with two matches ending in draws. The latest clash between the nations came in October 2021, with Greece landing a 2-0 away victory.
Both of these nations showed excellent quality in their semi-final showdowns last week, but the odds remain stacked against Georgia based on the head-to-head record. Therefore, the preference is for Greece to land victory on Tuesday to ensure their progression through to the EUROs.
