Napoli will be hoping to put their recent setback behind them when they return to domestic action following the international break on Saturday. The Italian champions suffered a rare top-flight defeat in 2023 before the break, and they will need to get back on track to re-establish their authority at the top of the Italian standings. 

Before that loss, Napoli had landed back-to-back wins, and were comfortably at the top of the standings. But, the unbeaten start to the new campaign came to an end at the hands of Lazio in Naples. It was a shock defeat given how both sides had started the season. Napoli’s goal in the defeat was netted by Piotr Zielinski. It was an excellent counter-attacking performance by the visitors, and that could be a game plan adopted by Genoa this weekend.

Genoa will have mixed feelings about their start to the new season, as they have won once in their opening three matches. However, the fact that they have suffered two defeats would be a concern at this early stage, as they sit 14th in the Serie A standings. 

A second defeat of the campaign was inflicted on the road before the international break, as they were edged out by Torino. In truth, Genoa looked to have done enough to hang on for a point in that fixture, but Torino stole the points with virtually the last kick of the game in the 94th minute.
