There is an interesting fixture in Serie A this week, as two teams that haven’t been in the best form recently will go head-to-head.
Inter Milan were among the front runners to challenge for the Serie A title this season, but they already find themselves five points behind the current leaders. Of course, there is a long way to go in the season, but they have been in stuttering form already. Inter haven’t won in their last two league games, with their first defeat of the season being inflicted in their last game in Serie A against AC Milan. Romelu Lukaku scored in that game, but Inter’s defending ensured that they were 2-0 down early on. Inter conceded two once again in the Champions League this past week, as they were held by Borussia Monchengladbach. Lukaku scored a brace for Inter in the draw, including one in the final minute to rescue a point for the Italian side. Antonio Conte will be hoping that his side will defend better in this fixture against Genoa.
Genoa’s form over the past two weeks hasn’t been much better than Inter’s as they have lost once and drawn once. They currently find themselves in 11th in the league table, and have conceded seven goals in the three games that they have played. Six of those goals came in the thumping that they received by Napoli a couple of weeks ago. However, there were signs that they were improving defensively in their last outing, as they held Hellas Verona to a 0-0 draw on the road. That was a much better performance, but they will be coming up against one of the in-form strikers in world football this weekend.
Inter have won the last four against Genoa, and they are yet to concede a goal. In these four fixtures, Inter have scored a combined total of 16 goals. The most recent game ended in a 3-0 win for Inter Milan back in July. Genoa’s last win against Inter came back in February 2018.
Inter Milan will be looking to settle in the league this weekend, as they will be aware that they can’t afford to keep dropping point. Genoa will have a tough challenge ahead of them, and we expect an away win, with Lukaku once again getting his name on the scoresheet.
