It has been a disappointing qualifying campaign to this point for Poland, but there is still time for them to turn their Group E campaign around. They will face a must-win showdown with the Faroe Islands on Thursday.
Poland are on the brink of missing out on a place at the EUROs next summer, as they are battling for a top two spot in Group E against Albania, Moldova, and the Czech Republic. They are currently losing that battle as they sit fourth in the current standings after winning just two of their five group stage matches. Disappointingly, they have lost three times already in Group E.
They are currently two points off the top two spots, and four points away from top-seeded Albania with just three rounds of matches to play. Poland’s form this year has been extremely questionable, as they have suffered three defeats on the road against the three sides sitting above them in the standings. Therefore, they will need perfect results from their remaining matches to stand any chance of securing a spot in Germany next summer.
This could be a perfect opportunity to get back on track, as the Faroe Islands have already been eliminated from contention in Group E. They sit bottom of the standings after five rounds of matches, as they have picked up just one points form a possible 15 available.
Their only point was picked up on matchday one against Moldova, but they have failed to build on that early promise after suffering defeats in each of their last five internationals. Their most recent defeat was picked up on home soil, as they were edged out by Moldova in early September.
Poland have a perfect record against the Faroe Islands, as they have won all four of the previous encounters. Their most recent win was a 2-0 success on home soil in September. Poland have scored 12 goals across their last three matches against their rivals, and they are yet to concede.
Things haven’t gone well for Poland in qualification to this point, and a big performance will be required on the road this week. We struggle to see them dropping more points in Group E this week, meaning that the preference is for an away win.
