Everton will be back in front of their home fans at Goodison Park on Saturday, as they look to register a second straight league win. Brighton will be the visitors to Merseyside, as they bid to end a four-game winless run in the Premier League.
Everton’s situation at the bottom of the Premier League standings has improved in recent weeks, as they have won three of their last five to move up to 15th in the table. That upturn in form has quickly opened up a five-point cushion between the Toffees and the bottom three, and a second straight victory on Saturday could move Everton up to eleventh in the standings.
Everton have won two of their previous three matches, which has been an excellent response following a shock home defeat against Luton. The Toffees were excellent defensively in their most recent fixture in the Premier League, as they landed a 1-0 win at the London Stadium against West Ham. Their only goal in that success was netted by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
It has been a turbulent period for Brighton, as the Seagulls have quickly dropped to seventh in the Premier League standings after going four without a win. Brighton will desperately need to get back on track this weekend if they are to enhance their chances of achieving a European finish this term.
Brighton were unable to get back to winning ways last weekend, as they eventually settled for a home draw against Fulham at the Amex. Evan Ferguson had given the Seagulls the lead in the 26th minute, but the Cottagers rescued a point following a goal with 25 minutes remaining.
The last four Premier League clashes between these sides have been won by the away side, including the 5-1 win recorded by Everton in May. The Toffees have won four of the previous seven Premier League matches between these sides, but they have lost each of the previous two at Goodison Park.
This could be one of the trickiest games to call in the Premier League this weekend, as Everton actually boasts the better form on paper. The Toffees have been fine defensively in recent matches, and we could see that being a key factor in aiding them to land maximum points against the Seagulls.
