Arsenal return to action following the international break on Sunday, as they make the trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton. The Gunners will be looking to stretch their unbeaten record at the start of the new season to five matches.
Arsenal have made a promising enough start to the new Premier League season, as they have gone four without defeat. However, they are yet to hit top gear in the top-flight so far this term, and have been fortunate to come away with maximum points in a number of matches already this term. But, a victory this weekend could lift them to the top of the standings if results go their way.
The Gunners needed to battle in their most recent Premier League fixture, as they edged over the line to a 3-1 victory against Manchester United. Despite falling behind, the Gunners equalised in the 28th minute, before snatching maximum points with two goals in second half injury time. Declan Rice netted his first goal for the Gunners in the 96th minute, before Gabriel Jesus wrapped up the win with his first goal of the season.
This weekend’s match is a repeat of Sean Dyche’s first in charge at Everton, and the club find themselves in a very similar position. The Toffees currently sit in the bottom three places in the Premier League after failing to win in each of their opening four matches. However, Everton did pick up a first point of the season in their most recent fixture.
Everton fell behind in that fixture against Sheffield United on the stroke of half time, but they responded ten minutes into the second half to level the scores. However, a much more controlled performance will be required against the Gunners this weekend.
Each of the previous four matches between these sides have been won by the team with home field advantage. That includes Everton landing maximum points with a 1-0 in this exact fixture last season. Arsenal are winless on their last five visits to Goodison Park.
Everton’s home record in this fixture deserves respect this weekend. However, they have really struggled to put together a solid performance in the Premier League this term, which means that the preference is for the Gunners to pick up a win on the road.
