The job is effectively done for Austria coming into their final match in EURO qualification, as they have already assured their spot in Germany next year. However, they could yet top the Group F standings, if they are able to land victory against Estonia on Thursday.
It has been an excellent qualification campaign for Austria, as their place in next summer’s EUROs has already been assured. The European nation currently sit second in the standings after winning five of their seven matches in Group F, but they could yet finish top of the standings if they are able to land victory on the road this week.
Finishing top of the standings could effectively mean a more favourable draw at the tournament next summer, and they have been strong throughout qualification after scoring 15 goals and conceding just seven. Austria comes into this match in excellent form, as they have won five of their eight internationals in 2023. They bounced back to winning ways last month with a 1-0 success on the road against Azerbaijan.
Estonia have been one of the biggest disappointments in Group F of EURO qualification, as they have failed to lay a glove on all the other sides in the group. They have suffered five defeats from their six matches in the group, and they have scored just two goals across their six matches. Meanwhile, they have allowed a group-high of 18 goals.
However, they still have a chance to reach the EUROs next summer, as they have already assured a playoff spot following their performances in the recent edition of the Nations League. But, their form this year would raise huge questions, as they have landed just a single victory from ten internationals.
Austria has a 100% record in this fixture, as they have landed victories in each of their last three against Estonia. The latest of those came in the form of a 2-1 home win in March, which was the first meeting between these nations since 1997.
Estonia have been incredibly underwhelming throughout this qualification campaign, and we don’t expect things to improve on Thursday. We expect Austria to land maximum points to enhance their chances of topping the Group F standings. But, we could see a one-goal margin being the difference between the nations.
