Premier League Matchday Five Round Up: 14.09.2019

The Premier League 2019/20 returned after the international break, and there were a few shocking results to start the weekend, as one team took a firm hold on the title race.

Norwich City 3-2 Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s side are often applauded for their style of playing out from the back. But, on Saturday, they consistently made mistakes and paid the ultimate price. Kenny McLean and Todd Cantwell put the Canaries 2-0 up before Sergio Aguero pulled a goal back. Teemu Pukki restored the two-goal advantage five minutes into the second half before Rodri scored a late consolation.

Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle United

City’s slip-up meant that Liverpool opened up a gap at the top of the league. However, they had to come from behind after a stunning Jetro Williams goal put the Toon ahead. Sadio Mane scored a brace before Mohamed Salah scored a third for the Reds.

Wolves 2-5 Chelsea

One of the most bizarre games of the weekend came from Molineux as Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick for the Blues in their big win in the Midlands. Abraham also scored at the wrong end. Fikayo Timori and Mason Mount were also on the score sheet for the Blues.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Crystal Palace

Spurs bounced back from their first home defeat of the season to beat Palace with a big score. The goals for Spurs were scored by Heung-Min Son (2), Erik Lamela and an own-goal by Patrick van Aanholt. It was a dominant display from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Manchester United 1-0 Leicester City

The Red Devils got back to winning ways on Saturday, as Marcus Rashford penalty inflicted a first defeat of the season on the Foxes. Harry Maguire won the man of the match accolade on his first appearance against his former side.

Watford 2-2 Arsenal

The Gunners had thought they had done enough to wrap up all three points as a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the visitors a 2-0 lead. Tom Cleverley pulled one back before Roberto Pereyra scored the equaliser nine minutes from time.
