The action in the Premier League kicked up a gear after returning from a brief pause for the international break. And during the weekend there have been results that have affected the top and the bottom of the table.

Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool were seen by many as a banker this weekend as they travelled to their old rivals in a strong position. However, the Reds were unable to put their usual attractive style of play together and were made to settle for a point. Marcus Rashford put United ahead before the break, with Jurgen Klopp adamant that the goal should have been ruled out for a foul. However, the Reds struck back five minutes from time when Adam Lallana was given the freedom of the park to tap in at the back post.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Watford

Tottenham’s recent troubles continued as they were held to a draw by the team at the bottom of the Premier League. Abdoulaye Doucoure opened the scoring after six minutes at the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Dele Ali was able to rescue a late point for the hosts. However, there was an element of handball in the Englishman’s goal and Spurs got the rub of the green.

Crystal Palace 0-2 Manchester City

Manchester City were forced to play with Rodri and Fernandinho in the heart of their defence but had little problems getting past Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The damage was done in the first half after goals from Gabriel Jesus and David Silva.

Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle United

Newcastle defended excellently at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but in the end they were condemned to another defeat to leave them in the bottom three of the Premier League. Marcos Alonso scored the only goal of the game as Frank Lampard’s side moved into the top four.
