Eintracht Frankfurt will be appeased with the start to the season that they have made this term. However, they will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they welcome FC Köln to town.
Eintracht Frankfurt will once again be aiming to finish the season in a European spot this term. They have made a reliable enough start to the new campaign as they have won once and drawn once across their opening two matches. A victory this weekend will likely see them go into the international break sitting in a Champions League spot.
However, Frankfurt weren’t able to back up their win on matchday one last weekend, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by their local rivals. Mainz were slightly unfortunate not to have won maximum points in that fixture, as they led for a long time. Frankfurt’s chances appeared to be over after Ansgar Knauff was sent off just after the hour mark. However, they managed to score a dramatic equaliser in the first minute of injury time, as Omas Marmoush converted with the team’s only shot on target.
FC Köln will be the outsiders in the betting this weekend, as they are still searching for a first league point of the season. At present, they sit down in 15th in the standings after losing back-to-back games. They have scored just once in two matches and have allowed three goals.
Their second defeat of the season was suffered last Saturday, as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Wolfsburg. It was a competitive display by the hosts on that occasion, and they were likely good value for a point from the game. But, they will quickly need to respond after that setback on matchday two.
Köln has an excellent record in this fixture, as they are unbeaten in their last four against Frankfurt. However, both of their wins over that period have been recorded in home matches. Each of the previous two clashes between the sides in Frankfurt have ended in 1-1 draw.
Something is slightly off at Frankfurt at present, and the potential departure of Kolo Muani is a huge issue. Therefore, we will be taking a chance on Köln landing maximum points this weekend.
