The Bundesliga season rolls on this weekend with an enticing fixture between two of the better sides in the division. It has been a hard campaign thus far for Eintracht Frankfurt as they struggle to adapt after losing crucial players over the summer, while Bayern Munich will be looking to take their place at the top of the tree.
Eintracht Frankfurt can be forgiven for their subdued start to the new season after losing Luka Jovic in the summer. Losing their talisman was never going to be easy for them, and matching their excellent campaign from last season was always going to be an uphill battle. Regardless, they are still competitive in the Bundesliga, and there is still time for this young side to gel together and become a force.
They are currently down in ninth place in the league but can climb up to fifth with a big win over the weekend. They have won the same amount of games as the five sides located directly above them, but defeats are their big problem. They will come into this game off the back of a 4-2 defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach. They were unable to recover from a poor first-half which saw them trail 2-0 at the break. They will have to start much quicker in this game.
Bayern meanwhile will be disappointed that they aren’t already at the top of the Bundesliga, as they trail Monchengladbach after drawing on three occasions this season. The Bavarians have only been beaten on one occasion, and their attacking prowess is undeniable.
The addition of Phillipe Coutinho has added a new dimension to their game, and they have been exciting to watch throughout the season. They come into this fixture off the back of a narrow 2-1 win over Union Berlin, where they were by far the better team. They were forced to hang on in the dying moments, but goals from Benjamin Pavard and Robert Lewandowski ensured that the damage was done.
Bayern holds the advantage in the overall record between these two sides as they have won on 23 occasions. Frankfurt have recorded three victories, and there have been four draws. Frankfurt only averages 0.6 goals per game in this fixture, while Bayern average 2.4.
Frankfurt’s inconsistency makes this a tricky game to call, as they do have talented players and on their day they can beat anyone. However, the preference would be for Bayern to get the three points to take them to the summit.
Tip: Bayern Munich to win.
