Champions League qualifying action takes place on Wednesday evening, as Benfica look to achieve another strong showing in the competition. Lasts season, the Portuguese side managed to reach the quarterfinals, before being beaten by Liverpool.
Champions League Qualifier Preview
Dynamo Kyiv return to action in Europe this week, as they continue to play their home games in Poland. The Ukrainian side have a distinct disadvantage this week, as they are not playing regularly in competitive fixtures due to the Ukrainian Premier League being paused due to the ongoing conflict in their home country.
However, they haven’t looked short of match practise in reaching this stage of the Champions League qualifiers, as they have already made it past the second and third qualifying rounds. In the first qualifying round, they managed to see off Fenerbahce in a commanding fashion. After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, they won away from home 2-1. Once again, it was their strong away form that got them over the line in the third qualifying round, as they beat Sturm Graz 2-1 last week.
Benfica pose a much different challenge this week, as the Portuguese side have already looked incredibly strong in the competition this season. They will be looking for another strong showing in the Champions League this term after they reached the quarterfinals in 2021-22.
The Portuguese giants managed to see off Midtylland in the previous round, eventually winning 7-2 on aggregate. Benfica took a healthy advantage from the first leg, with Goncalo Ramos scoring a hat-trick, and Enzo Fernandez also finding the back of the net. Fernandez also scored the second leg, as Benfica ran out 3-1 winners in Denmark. The other goals in the victory were scored by Henrique Araujo and Diogo Goncalves.
