DR Congo will go one-on-one against Guinea on Friday at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe for the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations, with kickoff slated for 20:00 GMT.
DR Congo are incredibly in the last eight of the AFCON tournament despite not winning a single match in normal time, drawing all their matches so far, and eliminating Egypt on penalties.
Sebastien Desabre’s side are a difficult one to judge properly, especially since they have recovered from losing positions in three of their matches at the Ivory Coast AFCON.
The focus for Desabre is having his offensive players, like Yoane Wissa, Silas Katompa, and Cedric Bakambu, to be in good form ahead of the clash against Guinea.
Bet hereGuinea showed glimpses of real quality in an otherwise uninspiring clash against Equatorial Guinea in the last-16 clash. Mohamed Bayo’s headed goal was enough to see them through to the quarter-final, where they go up against another pre-tournament underdog DR Congo.
Guinea made it to the last 16 of the AFCON tournament after finishing as one of the best third-placed sides in the group stage action.
However, despite their best player Serhou Guirassy facing fitness issues, Guinea prevailed and made it into the quarter-finals. Guirassy, who has 17 goals in 14 appearances for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, has been a big miss for Guinea, and they will need him to be back to improve their chances against DR Congo.
Guinea are sweating the availability of their influential forward Serhou Guirassy. Late tests will be conducted to determine whether he will be passed fit to play a part in the quarter-finals.
Guinea and DR Congo will fight to draw, with extra time or penalties required to separate the two sides who have shown determination and fighting spirit in the tournament so far.
