Borussia Dortmund has been in excellent recent form across all competitions, and they will be looking to maintain that streak on Sunday when they host Hertha Berlin. However, the visitors will be boosted after a win in their previous match.
It has taken a while this season, but Borussia Dortmund finally appears to have found their feet. The German giants sit third in the standings, but they could potentially go level on points with Bayern Munich this weekend with a home victory over Hertha Berlin. Dortmund couldn’t come into this fixture in much better form, as they have picked up victories in each of their previous five matches in the Bundesliga.
Their confidence is also likely to be high after registering a 1-0 win against Chelsea in the Champions League in midweek. Dortmund’s last domestic victory was picked up last weekend, as they claimed a 2-0 win on the road against Werder Bremen. Both goals were scored in the final 23 minutes, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens opening the scoring, before Julian Brandt doubled their advantage.
Hertha Berlin still finds themselves in a testing position in the Bundesliga standings, as they sit in the relegation playoff spot. They could drop into the automatic drop zone with a defeat this weekend, while an unlikely victory could lift them up a couple of places into 14th. Hertha would have been pleased with their performance last weekend, as they were able to end a four-game losing run.
It was a fine display in front of their home fans, as they claimed a 4-1 home win against Borussia Monchengladbach. Hertha responded excellently after going 1-0 down, and was able to celebrate the win after goals from Jessic Ngankam, Marton Dardai, Derry Scherhant, and Dodi Lukebakio.
Dortmund boasts an excellent record in this fixture, as they have won seven of their previous eight Bundesliga matches against Hertha. The only defeat that they suffered over that period was a 3-2 loss in Berlin in December 2021.
Dortmund’s attacking players appear to be flourishing at present, and that looks set to be a worrying concern for Hertha ahead of this fixture on Sunday. We can’t see Dortmund’s positive run of results coming to an end this weekend, and a 2-0 win for the hosts could be the eventual outcome.
