Borussia Dortmund are beginning to put pressure on the sides in the Champions League spots, and they could potentially move into the top four by claiming maximum points this weekend. They will be heavily favoured to land victory when they host Bochum.
It hasn’t been the easiest start to the 2023-24 season for Borussia Dortmund, but the German giants will make their push for a Champions League spot in the second half of the season. Dortmund come into this weekend in excellent recent form after avoiding defeat in each of their last four matches. That includes picking up wins in each of their last two in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund now sit level on points with fourth-placed Leipzig, and they are just behind their rivals on goal difference. The German side were excellent against FC Köln last weekend, as they recorded a massive 4-0 victory. Donyell Malen was a standout performer in that win on the road after netting a brace. Niclas Fulkrug also found the net in the win on the road, while the scoring was completed by Youssoufa Moukoko in injury time.
Bochum will be unfancied in the betting this weekend, but they come into the round in a positive run of form after winning two of their last four. Meanwhile, they have suffered just one defeat over that period of matches in the Bundesliga. The German side currently sits 14th in the standings, but they could move into the top half of the standings if they can claim a famous win against Dortmund.
Bochum were excellent in their last match in the Bundesliga, as they upset the odds to pick up a 1-0 victory against Stuttgart. Their only goal in the win was netted by Matus Bero in the second half, which was also their only shot on target in the 90 minutes.
The previous two matches between these two German sides have ended in draws, which includes a 1-1 tie earlier in the season. Dortmund have picked up just one victory in their last five league matches against Bochum, with that success coming in this exact fixture last term.
Bochum have shown some strong form in recent weeks, but it appears challenging to overlook a resurgent Dortmund this weekend. We expect the hosts to pick up a comfortable 2-0 success at Signal Iduna Park.
